Mauricio won the highest award for Spanish Classical guitar music whilst studying at The Madrid Conservatory and María won a national prize for her interpretation of Alegrías - the combination of the two is a match made in heaven and a rare privilege for them to perform together.

We are delighted to include this wonderful Spanish Guitar concert featuring world-class Mauricio Díaz Álvarez, accompanied by Cadiz Flamenco dancer María Pardo at the beautiful Parabola Arts in Cheltenham, as part of this year's Flamenco Festival.

Mauricio is a Classical Guitarist of Mexican origin living in France, via several years residing in Spain where he attended the Real Conservatorio Superior de Musica de Madrid, under renowned composer and guitarist Gabriel Estarellas. Mauricio is currently Professor of Classical Guitar at the Conservatoire des Beaux Arts in Choisy-le-Roi, France and also performs with many orchestras and gives masterclasses throughout the world.

We are lucky to have such an amazing musician in our midst and look forward to hearing him perform extracts from Suite Española Op.47 by Albéniz and his own work Hommage à J.Malats, amongst other much-loved works, accompanied by Flamenco and Spanish National dance.

El Cañejo de Barbate, true to his roots, performs in many local bars and Peñas around Cadiz during summer, working earlier in the day at sea. His popularity has soared recently and during the winter now sings around the globe, having learnt his craft at his grandmother's knee, coming from a family where Flamenco is a way of life.

El Cañejo has already performed with the Spanish National Dance company and the Spanish National Orchestra and recorded 2 CDs. He is joined by the distinctive voice of Angeles Rivera, a fresh, contemporary female artist from Cadiz, along with the colourful passionate Flamenco dance of Adrian Brenes and Nazaret Oliva whilst the cool, unflustered Jaime de la Isla from San Fernando, consistently astounds on Flamenco guitar.

A wonderful opportunity to give Flamenco a go, with fabulous teachers from Cadiz! Children's, Adult Introduction and Intermediate class.

On Saturday 23 November in the Multi-Activity Studio at Leisure At Cheltenham, Adrian Brenes and Maria Pardo will be offering Flamenco workshops for Children and Adults. Both are highly accomplished dancers and teachers originally from Cadiz, visiting Cheltenham for this year's Flamenco Festival 21-25 November.

Adrian speaks fluent English and runs classes at Institute La Truco in Madrid and Maria dances professionally and oversees Children’s dance and music development around Cadiz, as well as running popular Flamenco dance courses for all levels, most recently in Prague.

This is an ideal opportunity to have a go, with the added bonus of wonderful Spanish teachers inspiring that extra something!

The Children's class (age 6-12) will run from 10.30 am -11.30 am.

Adult Beginners will run from 11.30 am - 12.30 pm.

Adult Intermediate with Choreography will run from 12.30 pm - 1.30 pm.

For men/boys, trainers and jogging pants are suitable and for women/children, shoes with a small heel and a flowing skirt. There is a cafe next to the studio for light refreshments.

FLAMENCO JAM at THE STRAND features a surprise line-up of artists from Cadiz, plus some from closer to home OLÉE! 8pm

ALEGRÍA at CHAPEL ARTS bursts with brightness from Cadiz, evoking pure sunshine and oranges.

A joyful evening, shining through the wonderful Flamenco from Cadiz famous for its sunny Alegrías, Tangos and Tanguillos featuring El Cañejo de Barbate, a tuna fisherman for half the year, international Flamenco singer the other, Jaime de la Isla, currently one of the best young Flamenco guitarists from San Fernando, Cadiz (birth place of Camarón de la Isla) and María Pardo, the up-and-coming Flamenco dancer from a renowned musical family in Cadiz.

A fabulous Gala evening of Flamenco at the Parabola Arts Centre, Cheltenham showcasing some of the most exciting young artists to emerge recently from Cadiz.

María Pardo, a beautifully graceful dancer, is full of fiery surprises.  She is perfectly paired by the charismatic, athletic and guapo José Helmo.
